Braemar Creative Arts Festival

Braemar certainly lived up to its village motto “Mak Siccar” by making sure that everyone who attended the Creative Arts Festival, in whatever capacity, enjoyed themselves and left enriched by their experience.  The Festival was held over four days and during that time there were courses in fiddle, tin whistle, step dance, song, chanter, wood carving, willow weaving, quilting, pastels, screen printing, landscape painting, photography, creative writing, and story telling. The standard of instruction for all these courses was outstanding.

In the evenings, for those who needed to unwind after taking part in the many courses on offer, there was entertainment. On Wednesday the appropriately named, Oscar winning film, “The Artist” was shown in the Village Hall. Those who missed this film were deprived from seeing one of the most entertaining and cleverly crafted films I have seen in a long while. Thursday evening, a “Quiz Night” at the Moorfield Hotel had everyone buzzing, and on Friday evening the Village Hall was packed, yet again, to listen to the celebrated and extremely talented fiddlers, Paul Anderson, his wife Shona and the traditional music group Lurach who performed some truly memorable tunes and songs. All events came to an end on Saturday evening at the Moorfield Hotel with a folk music extravaganza performed by all the artists, musicians and singers. What a perfect way to end an exciting and stimulating Festival. When can we book for next year?
