Creative Arts Festival 23 -26 October 2013 Overview

 
MUSIC

Prices are standard throughout the music section. Any one music class is £10, and each additional class will be £7.50….and that applies to any instrument! Most classes last approx. 90 minutes – 2 hours. (Choir and group work may last longer)

Chanter - Diane Wright, Wed 23rd suitable for all ages and abilities

Fiddle - Fiona Driver, Wed 23rd and Thurs 24th, all levels of ability catered for

Drums - Graham Simpson, Wed 23rd and Thurs 24th

Percussion (bodhran and frame drums mixed with live electronic beats)-Dave Martin on Thurs 24th and Fri 25th

Song (Gaelic and Scots) -

with Naomi Harvey (Lurach) Fri 25th

Whistle- Naomi Harvey, Fri 25thand Sat 26th beginner and intermediate classes offered

Guitar – Kevin Parker, play and accompany Celtic music - DADGAD for beginners Fri 25th

Mandolin and Bazouki

Will Lamb (Lurach) Fri 25th suitable for beginners and intermediates.

Fiddle - Lucy Macrae (Lurach) Sat 26th beginners and intermediate players welcome.

Choir – Yvonne Burgess, offers singing workshops specialising in harmonies, and including traditional, pop and African material Sat 26th.

Group Work- Will Lamb(Lurach) find out how to arrange and perform music together, in an ensemble setting, Sat. 26th.

ARTS & CRAFT

Pastels for All - Fiona Haldane: a full day class on Wed 23rd or Thurs 24th. Explore the possibilities of working with pastels; suitable for beginners and professionals. £25

 
Landscape Painting - Colin Robertson: a three hour class in painting with acrylics on Fri 25th or Sat 26th.  £12.50

 Silkscreen Printing - Freya Cumming: a full day class on Fri 25th or Sat 26th. Design and print your own limited edition screen-print £35 (including materials)

 
Hand built Ceramics - Hilary Duncan: a three hour class on Wed 23rd or Thurs 24th.      Make a jug or figure. £20 includes glazing and firing

 
Landscape Photography – Anke Addy: a three hour outdoor class suitable for both the beginner and intermediate photographer on Sat 26th £25
 
 

Willow Weaving- Helen Jackson: a full day’s class (8 hours) in basket making on Fri 25th £45 (includes materials)
 

Scandinavian Wood Carving-
Lawrence Clark: of Bushcraftventures Thurs 24th a full day’s introduction to Scandinavian wood carving  £50

Making Birch Bark Containers -   Lawrence Clark of Bushcraftventures Fri 25th full day £50
 

Making Folded Books -

Nicola Chambury: a three hour workshop to make a variety of folded books. No stitching or glueing required Thurs 24th
£12.50 (materials £5.00 extra)
 

LITERATURE/DRAMA

Creative writing – Rachel Marsh, a two day course which will allow the student to progress towards personal writing goals-open to all abilities & genres
Fri 25th and Sat 26th  £40
 
Writing a review – Joan Anderson, a 3 hour workshop for beginners designed to give you all the confidence and tips you need to write a review, Wed 23rd £12.50 (Students  £8) includes a free pass to one show or event.
 
Drama workshop – Carole Williams, SCDA National Advisor, offers a two day workshop in Theatre Skills on Thurs 24th and Fri 25th leading to a short public                              performance on Fri evening £30

 
SEWING/HANDICRAFT

 Millinery Class - Jennifer Greenshields: two X 3.5 hour workshops, Wed 23rd and Thurs 24th Create your own flower headpiece using traditional techniques.
£30 (including materials)

 
Sew a ‘Quilt- as- you- go’ Reversible Table Runner- Lisa Dinkelman (Seattle Quilts) Full day class, Wed 23rd 

(A list of what you need to supply will be issued. Alternatively you can buy a kit.)
Class only, £10 
 
Knitted Felt Bag (with Lining)
 by McHattie’s Yarn Boutique: for 2 hours each day on Thurs, Fri and Sat.
£25 (not including materials)

 
Learn to crochet and more -
Pat Thomson, 3 hour session offering   tuition in crocheting and other forms of needlework such as knitting and embroidery. Wed 23rd £12.50
 
FRINGE’ ACTIVITIES
 
The HUB for all Festival participants will be at taste..
· Drop in and knit a ‘square for the festival stag’ activity  
· Find the knitted Squirrels on and around Craig Choinninch (Trail activity for all ages)
· ‘Plant Ideas’ from Crathie There're many reasons why it's a good idea to make your own skincare products, it's cheap, quick, simple, creative, toxin free and you can dream up bespoke delights that suit your skin type, allergies, budget and
favourite smells. Plant Ideas kits are a great way to get started.  Learn with us how to make   basic products and once you've got the hang of it order your own choice of ingredients from our range to  experiment with.

· The Great Braemar  Bake-off contest
 
EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
(no booking required, pay at the door)
Wednesday: Film Show in the Village Hall
 
Thursday: Festival ‘Creative’ Quiz at the Moorfield House Hotel

Friday: Variety Concert in the Village Hall, featuring the Festival’s musicians, actors, singers and dancers
 
Saturday: Sessions Night at the Moorfield House Hotel- all welcome
