Arts Festival Press Release

BRAEMAR CREATIVE ARTS FESTIVAL 2012
Do you need a reason to visit Braemar in the autumn?  Sign up for a class at Braemar’s Creative Arts Festival, the perfect way to recharge your batteries before the long dark winter nights. Workshops and courses in art, music and literature will run from Wed 17th October until Sun 21st.

Why not make it a mini-break? Book into one of our hotels or guesthouses, and enjoy the

Festival Entertainment each evening. There are plans for a quiz night, cheese and wine reception, film show, concert, jam sessions, and a ceilidh.
Alternatively if you can’t commit that amount of time you can choose to come along for just a half day class.

All our teachers and course leaders are recognised ‘experts’ in the following areas…….

ARTS and CRAFTS (for adults) – Acrylic Painting, Working with Pastels, Silk Screen-printing, Photography, Willow Weaving, Wood Carving, Quilting.

MUSIC and DANCE (suitable for upper primary and adults) – Whistle, Chanter, Fiddle, Voice, and Step Dance

LITERATURE – Creative Writing Course (adults) and Story Telling Workshops (children and adults)

….and for those who’d rather explore the wonderful surrounding countryside in all its autumn glory, there’s a two day course in map reading and navigation with Walkdeeside.

Don’t know what to choose?

You can pick and mix your classes. For example you might make the beginnings of a quilt with Lisa, from Seattle Quilts on Wednesday. If you take Anke’s photography class on Thursday, you could then use one of your photographs to paint a landscape in Colin’s acrylics class on Friday. On Saturday perhaps you’d like to try one of the music classes or learn the new skill of Willow Weaving from Helen.

If literature is your ‘thing’ you might like to sign up for Rachel’s Creative Writing course. Attend the class on Wednesday and Thursday, and make a good start to your story. Friday is a day off from the class when you have the choice to work alone on your writing, walk in the hills or maybe take the workshop in Story Telling from Anna. Back to writing class on Saturday and prepare to show off your work on Sunday by reading aloud in one of the local cafes (if you want to).

Perhaps music is your passion. We’ll be offering beginners' and intermediate classes in a number of traditional instruments from some first class musicians. With Step Dance and Song thrown into the mix we should be in for some excellent entertainment.

To register an interest in the Festival please email mjdante@hotmail.co.uk and we’ll send you full details of all the classes including what’s on and when and the costs.
